Tänapäev Publishers was founded in 1999. The main field of activity is publishing books. Tänapäev publishes titles on subjects in the following fields: fiction, history, current events, popular science, reference, biographies, health, children’s literature and humour books.
In year 2000 Tänapäev published 45 books, in 2003 about 70 books, in 2011 Tänapäev 125 and in 2016 over 140 new titles. In 20 years we have published over 2200 titles.
In translated fiction the most prominent series is called “The Red Book”, featuring authors like Oscar Wilde, Kurt Vonnegut, Albert Camus, Franz Kafka, Paul Auster, Ian McEwan, John Irving, Mikhail Bulgakov, Jeanette Winterson and many others. Authors include also Nobel-prize winners like Günter Grass, Mario Vargas Llosa, Svetlana Alexyevich, Daniel Kahneman, Wiliam Golding and many others. Series currently includes over 120 titles. Tänapäev also publishes several popular crime authors such as Boris Akunin, Robert van Gulik, M.C. Beaton, Colin Dexter and Peter James. The non-fiction list includes many titles on history and politics, both from recent and ancient times.
“My First Book” is a popular series of original Estonian children literature and there is also a separate series for young adult readers. We have published many leading Estonian children authors and illustrators. Prominent series also include albums of old postcards and photos of landmarks in Estonia.
About two thirds of our titles are translations. Most of our translations are from English, but also Russian, German, French, Scandinavian languages, Spanish, Italian and smaller languages.
Tänapäev is a general publisher operating with most subject areas, but we do not publish textbooks. We have published books in quite specific fields (South American civilizations, Cultural History of Japan, “Thinking Fast and Slow” by Daniel Kahneman) and on the other hand bestsellers like “Hunger Games” trilogy, Marie Kondo, “The Martian” by Andy Weir, “Guinness World Records” etc.
